Message from the Associate Dean, Learning and Teaching
Welcome to the Learning and Teaching Office and staff. We provide support for a range of important activities to enhance the delivery of an extensive range of courses within the Faculty. The Faculty values and celebrates the diversity that is evident in the courses offered. To encourage the development of innovative new courses in the Faculty we, in conjunction with the Centre for learning and Teaching, provide support for new course and unit development, instructional design and educational technologies.
We endeavour to ensure that outstanding teaching within the Faculty is valued and rewarded through the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Awards, the Australian University Teaching Awards, the ECU Learning and Teaching Small Grants and Faculty Grants.
We endeavour to ensure that teachers in the Faculty receive plentiful support to enable them to deliver quality programs that make full use of the available infrastructure and resources. Our programs are characterised by the use of contemporary technologies and delivery practices that recognize the diverse needs of our students.
Through the Faculty Board of Examiners we recognise high achieving students by nominating them for the Deans Honour Roll that can be accessed through the Faculty Website. Learning Advisors offer support and special courses for students who need assistance with completing their assigned work. They can be contacted through the centre for Learning and Teaching. Student Support Officers provide advice to students on a wide range of issues, including preparing study plans and application for exemptions and Recognition of Prior Learning.
Purpose Statement
The core purpose of the Learning and Teaching Office is to support, facilitate and guide the improvement of learning and teaching in the Faculty by:
- acting as the interface between students, staff and University services in support of learning and teaching; and
- implementing systems, process and support for quality assurance of learning and teaching activities in the Faculty.
Core Functions
The office of the Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching) is located on the Joondalup Campus and has responsibility for the following functions:
- Acts as the interface between the University CTLC and the Faculty
- Assures the quality of course and unit approvals
- Initiates activities that improve the quality of learning and teaching in the Faculty
- Coordinates and supports the Annual Planning and Quality Review Activities for the Faculty
- Liaises with stakeholder, customers and the community
